A Life In Boxes
Sorting Through Storage Boxes Is An Emotional Roller Coaster!
I’ve just spent 3 hours sorting through the boxes we have had in storage for the past three years.
I can tell you now it can be an emotional, frustrating and life-reaffirming experience simultaneously.
Backstory
Three years ago, after my stroke, we decided to downsize and move from our 3-story Townhouse to a much smaller house closer to town.
We had much less space, so we moved a lot of things into storage. Today, we had the boxes delivered to the house to see what we could get rid of and what we wanted to keep.
Emotion.
The first thing that I noticed was how much emotion and memories can be attached to certain items.
I found my daughter's toys, the baby-sized Arsenal kit when she was born, the signed copies of books, my father's photo album, his national service photos from 1955 (not far off 70 years old!), the pewter tankard his father gave him on his 21st birthday.
And also Allison's wedding dress from 40 years ago… which she says to tell you she can still fit into!
All of these came packed with stories and half-forgotten memories.
