Black Friday Is A Scam

I hate black Friday. It’s frequently used as an excuse to scam clients.… There, I said it.

Yesterday, I posted this note:

I had 551 black Friday emails in my inbox, from which I bought NOTHING.

I’ll admit some deals can be useful, such as annual offers for something you pay for already. But generally Black Friday sales are little more than a money grab.

Let’s look at it from both the retail side of things and the online marketing side of things.

Online Marketing

Did you run a black Friday sale?

If so, well done.

  • You’ve taught your audience to hold on and not buy from you, as you’ll sell everything at rock-bottom prices later in the year.
  • You’ve taught them that if they buy from you at launch you’ll give others better deals later on.
  • You’ve also planted the seed that your products might be overpriced.
  • And as the cherry on the cake, you’ve decided to compete with all your competitors at the same…
