Stop Over Complicating Things — Be The Best At One Thing
Recently while in Seville I did my usual “Alley Diving” staying off the main streets and heading down small alleys.
This is where you find how the locals live, you find their bars, restaurants and shops.
This was particularly successful last week as I found a shop that sold one thing.
Just one thing.
Pasteles De Nata otherwise know as Portuguese tarts.
Flaky pastry shells filled with creamy custardy goodness.
That was all they sold and they cost just €1.50 each.
(you could get a coffee or an orange juice with them if you wanted so probably technically 3 things but lets not split hairs)
This got my business brain buzzing, how can they they make a profit selling just one €1.50 item.
In the photo above you can see how much stock they hold.. that display case is all there is.
Doesn’t make sense does it?
Actually it does.
Because they make sure that the tarts are the best they can be.
Every 30 minutes they prepare a fresh batch of 36 tarts.
That photo below was taken at 9PM and that was the last batch of the day.
