Why I Paused My Newsletter

Is There More Value In Long-Form Emails?

Earlier this week I sent out episode #102 of the short form Content Centric Marketing newsletter.

After that, I put it on Pause.

Why? When the open rate and click rates were still very good, it was making me a decent amount of Income, and it was going better than I expected.

It wasn’t challenging!

It was the easiest part of my business: find some interesting and useful content, write a few intro lines, add a link, add an outro, and send.

I would seriously recommend this model to anyone starting out but for me it lacked one thing…interaction & feedback.

When you link a newsletter to a piece of good content, the interaction happens on the content. (As it should do)

As an old-school email marketer, I missed that interaction and feedback.

With long-form emails you take your reader on a journey and can give them a valuable lesson and result at the end.

As a case in point, the email I sent yesterday got five replies by the end of the day. That’s probably five more than the newsletter has got in the past month.

Newsletter Fatigue
